    Celebrate Black History Month
Remember when our youth tied pink ribbons on the trees on Kingman Boulevard in memory of Rosa Parks and to celebrate Black History Month?   The library committee invites you to revive this tradition by attending a dramatic presentation by Sharon Brown of Mount Olive Baptist Church.  Ms. Brown will become Rosa Parks and will share Ms. Park's role in the Civil Rights Movement through her characterization.  Please join us for this one woman presentation on Sunday, 2/12/12 at 9:00 a.m., in the Activity Center.

    Super Wednesday
is planning on a theme of “Bloom Where You are Planted” this semester.  This saying was popular in the 70’s so we’ll also be celebrating that decade at Super Wednesday. We are looking for items from the 70’s.  We would LOVE a disco ball, but would appreciate any bell bottoms or other items from that decade.  Dig in your basements and bring in items you think we might enjoy.  Please place donations in the Super Wednesday/ Grace Club box in the front entryway.

The Des Moines Community Orchestra presents its winter concert Sunday, February 5th at Sheslow Auditorium on the Drake campus.  The concert is at 2:00 p.m. with a pre-concert talk at 1:00 p.m.  The program is DMCO Takes Flight.  Selections by Jean Sibelius, Antonio Vivaldi, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Sir Ralph Vaughan Williams, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Igor Stravinsky make up the program.  For additional information about the concert including program notes go to www.desmoinescommunityorchestra.org.

    Caring for Homebound Church Members
We need a few friendly, caring volunteers to touch base on a monthly basis with the church members who are homebound. By a simple phone call, a caring card or a visit, you can express your Christian love, caring and friendship and remind them that they are valued and not forgotten. Call Harriet Bailey if you are interested-554-8796 or 279-5208
    Grace Senior Ministries Committee

    The Senior Adult committee
would like to know if anyone is interested in forming a Let's Go to The Movies group. This activity would be kind of like the Out-to-Lunch Bunch group, except we'd be attending a movie on the 4th Saturday of each month.  We might go for coffee after the movie, if the group chooses.  We would meet at church and car pool or perhaps a Grace member would volunteer to drive the bus.  Please note:  even though this activity would be sponsored by the senior adult committee, there is no restriction for age.  We'd probably need permission slips if any youth are interested.  So the 1st step is to see if there is any interest.  Let Harriet Bailey know by calling 515-279-5208.  We will always attend the matinee early in the afternoon.  Thank you very much!

    Chimes Deadline
The deadline for the March Chimes is Monday, February 13, 2012 at noon. Please email your articles to: chimes@gracedesmoines.org. Thank you!

Looking for relief from the mid-winter blahs?  The Drake Choir invites you to its benefit cabaret concert on Saturday, Feb. 18, 7:30 p.m., in Sheslow Auditorium.
The concert will feature performances by the choir as a whole, as well as individual students from the ensemble.  They’ll bring you a wide variety of music, from Broadway musicals and jazz to pop, opera, and original compositions.  Tickets are $25 for non-students and $5 for anyone with a student ID.  For further information and to purchase tickets, contact
tricia.atterberg@drake.edu or call 271.2755.  By purchasing  a ticket for this concert, you’ll support the Drake Choir’s May 2012 international tour—and enjoy a great evening of light and lively music sung by amazingly talented students.

Something to think about: Did you know that over 50% of all people at the time of their death do not have a will or living trust? By having a will, you can have the peace of knowing that your wishes will be followed.
