Monday July 13 will be the launch of a six week Bible-Sermon Study at Grace UMC. Each participant will be asked to read Gospel Medicine, a collection of sermons by Barbara Brown Taylor, an Episcopal priest. She holds the Harry R. Butman Chair in Religion and Philosophy at Piedmont College in northeastern Georgia and serves as adjunct professor of Christian spirituality at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur. In 1995 she was recognized by Baylor University as one the twelve most influential preachers in the English language. In her collection of sermons Barbara Brown Taylor addresses the issues of anger, abandonment as well as God’s promises, messengers, and tender mercies. Her unique approach can be seen in the fact that “Arthritis of the Spirit” is the title she gives to her sermon on forgiveness. Books will be available in the church office in July. The class will meet at 7 p.m. Mondays in the church Library. Call Rev. Jill Flyr at 255-2131 if you have questions.
