Music and Worship Arts at Grace practice “Uncommon Hospitality” with dedication!

Choirs, Drama Teams, Handbell Choirs, and Instrumental groups all provide musical leadership for services at Grace. There is sure to be a place for you no matter your age or ability:

The Chancel Choir

is the flagship of the Music and Worship Arts Ministry. The Chancel Choir is open to adults college age and older. An eclectic mix of musical styles is offered ranging from works by Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart to more modern works and world music. While no audition is required, good note reading ability is very helpful. Rehearses Wednesday nights from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM

The Grace Chimers

are the cornerstone of Handbells at Grace. Membership is open to adults college age and older. No prior experience necessary, but ability to read music and rhythm skills are a must. In the future, other handbell choirs will be available for youth, beginning adults, and children’s chimes. Rehearses Thrusday evenings from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and plays in worship monthly.

The Grace Daychimers

A beginning adult handbell choir, especially for players that can't get out a night for a rehearsal. Meets Tuesdays from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM.

The Chapel Choir

is one of the handful of youth choirs left in the country that sing every Sunday morning in a worship service. Membership is open to all 6th grade, middle school, and high school youth. No prior experience is necessary, but a commitment to rehearsal and the long tradition of quality music is. This group tours to England for a John Wesley Heritage Tour every six years. This group works closely with UMYF and helps produce the annual Youth Dinner Drama. Rehearses from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday’s before UMYF.

The Wesley Choir

is Grace’s children’s choir. This choir is open to all children ages 1st through 5th grade. Children sing a variety of music and sing each Sunday on a rotating schedule. Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The Drama Team

is featured on occasion in all worship services to tell the good news in new a different way. Members may also serve as liturgists when needed and help produce an annual Talent Show. In the future, the Drama Team will produce full blown productions in the Fall, as well as be a integral part of special seasonal services such as The Hanging of the Greens, Advent, and Lent.

Grace Notes

serves as both vocalists and band for our contemporary New World Service. No prior experience necessary, unless you play guitar, drums, bass or keyboard. Prior experience with lead sheets, “tab”, and written out music is helpful for instrumentalists, as is the ability to play in jazz and rock styles by ear. Vocalists need not read music, but need the ability to pick up harmony and melody quickly. We especially are in need of a bass player, drum set player and second keys player. While contemporary in nature, we play a variety of music ranging from old hymns made new to modern Christian rock. Rehearses Wednesdays from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM.

Graceful Dancers

is in the works for a new Liturgical dance company. An audition is required and experience in ballet, theater dance, and jazz idioms are a must. This group is in it’s infancy and was featured at our World Communion Sunday service. If you are interested, pleas contact Jon-Philip Olson for more information.

The Cokesbury Philharmonic Orchestra

is a possibility for a church orchestra at Grace. If you play a standard orchestral instrument and would be willing to commit to a regular rehearsal and performance schedule, pleas call our Director of Music for more information. Membership is open to middle school and above. Proficiency on your instrument is a must. Music ranges from masterworks to grade three arrangements.

Warm Ups
These times are when Warm Ups start on Sunday Morning. You need to have your music, robe and self in order before the warm up starts. We will start with hymns and combined choirs, then move to individual anthems. Please do any necessary vocal or physical warm ups prior to coming to this warm up, as there is not enough time to do so and review every anthem. Your Sunday School teacher understands and knows you have worship duties and will gladly release you. Your choir coordinator will be there to assist you.
I hate asking people to miss a portion of Sunday School - I am working closely with Kathye Harrington-Taber to minimize the impact on our
Sunday School program.
We must remain on schedule so that the 10:15 service starts on time.
Please be ready to go at your time.
