Our Beliefs

Grace United Methodist Church is a progressive, inclusive community rooted in love, justice, and service. Grounded in the traditions of United Methodism, we celebrate the diversity of God’s creation and work to embody God’s grace in all we do. Here’s what guides our faith:

  • God: Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer

We believe in one God known to us as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer—a dynamic and relational presence who calls us into connection with all of creation. God’s love is boundless, affirming the worth and dignity of every person.

  • Sacred Stories: The Bible

The Bible is a living witness to God’s presence in human history. It contains sacred stories that inspire, challenge, and guide us. As progressive Christians, we interpret and supplement scripture through the lenses of tradition, reason, experience, and the call to love, recognizing its historical and cultural contexts.

  • Jesus: Love Embodied

Jesus Christ reveals and embodies the heart of God. Through his radical love, inclusive ministry, and self-giving life, Jesus models a path of compassion, justice, and reconciliation. His resurrection is a proclamation of hope and new life for all people.

  • Grace and Wholeness: Salvation

Salvation is the ongoing work of God’s grace to heal, restore, and transform individuals and communities. It is not limited by belief or circumstance but is an open invitation to live more fully in love, hope, and justice.

  • Sacred Community: The Church

The church is a diverse and welcoming community where people gather to grow in faith, serve others, and work for justice. At Grace, we are committed to being a place where everyone belongs, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, or socioeconomic status.

  • New Beginnings: Baptism

Baptism is a celebration of God’s grace and a reminder of our belonging in God’s family. It marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith, justice, and service. At Grace, we welcome people of all ages to experience this sacrement.

  • Continuing Grace: Holy Communion

The Sacrement of Holy Communion is an open table where all are welcome to experience God’s grace. Through the bread and the cup, we remember, are connected with Christ’s love, and are nourished for lives of justice, peace, and service. At Grace, the sacrament is open for all, no exceptions.

  • Spirit of Transformation: The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God’s empowering presence, moving within and among us to inspire creativity, nurture community, and fuel our work for justice and peace. The Spirit invites us into deeper relationships with God and one another.

  • Connecting with God: Prayer

Prayer is a conversation with God, a space for listening, reflecting, and expressing gratitude. It sustains us in our faith journey and connects us to God’s transformative love and guidance.

  • A Call to Justice and Action

At Grace, we believe that faith must be lived out in the world. We are called to stand with the marginalized, advocate for equity, and work to dismantle systems of oppression. Love is our guiding principle, and justice is our mission.

  • A Table for All

We practice radical hospitality, affirming that everyone is welcome at God’s table. Our inclusive theology celebrates the full participation of all people in the life and leadership of the church.
